Student made Anime on @redsoftware Animation creator #edapp #mlearning #artsed #lessonplan

 

My 6th grade students studied a unit on Japan so I figured they could collaborate to create a piece of Japanese inspired animation (Anime) by using @redsoftware 's app: Animation Creator

In the past, I have done Manga work with my students, where they study the art of that time period while they learn about it in their sixth grade Social Studies class.

I wanted my students to utilize the Animation Creator app before they left me for the year, as I had some great examples in the past when my students made Greek Myth animations

Overall though, I must say that I was a little disappointed with the school's IPods and the app itself. Not sure if it was a the school's wireless or the IPod's software, or a combination of both. SO I apologize to my 6th graders that not ALL of your animations made it into the film as I had a lot of issues of taking all thirty IPods home and uploaded them one at a time to YouTube .

6th graders Ancient Greek vases w/ crayon etching: student gallery & #lessonplan #artsed #horry #socialstudies

6th graders learned the conept of contrast and variety when they made a crayon scratch work on tag board in the shape of a Grecian vase.

Students had to come up with the basic Greek vase shape, which was a subject they were also learning about in their Social Studies class at the time.

Students then had to put a light layer of crayon down on a piece of tagboard. They would then put a much darker color of crayon on top of it.  

By using our scratch art tools, the students could scratch away some shapes and objects off of the darker shade to create contrast.

I initially got this idea off of the Incredible art department web site, but I have also turned it into a Powerpoint with some Discovery education videos on it

6th grade student gallery of @morriscooke Photo Puppet movies on Ancient Egypt & Renaissance artists #artsed #mlearning #edtech #edapp

6th grade BWMS art students had to pick one Renaissanceartist from a selected list. Alternatively, students could tell me whatever they learned about Ancient Egypt in their Social Studies class and they could make a movie about one topic they learned in there. They then had to type up a biography paragraph on Edmodo prior to receiving their IPod.

Afterwards, students had to log into their Edmodo site, where I posted a link of student photos. I took a photo of the students in front of green paper to simulate a green screen effect. Unfortunately, the Photo Puppet Go app doesn't have the "remove green" effect that my IPad app has.

Once students downloaded their picture from Edmodo, they then had to import it as a puppet in the Photo Puppet Go app

The next step, students had to download one piece of art from their artist and then upload it as a  background in the Photo Puppet app

Finally, students combined their puppet and the background into a scene. Within the scene, they would animate their puppet while recording their voice which demonstrated their research on the artist.

When the film was done, a student could Tweet about it, upload it ot their YouTube account or save it to the camera roll.

6th grade Paper mache masks inspired by Ancient civilizations #artgallery #artsed #horry

Day 1: Students receive a millk jug and cover it with tin foil as the armature of the project. Afterwards, students layer the jug with three to five layers of a paper mache

Day 2: Students use hand building and additive sculpture techniques to create such things as eyes, ears, noses or other features by balling up paper or cardboard and combining it to the mask. The goal is to not make it look like a milk jug, yet to keep the surface smooth

Day 3 - The last day to use paper mache goop. Finalize features and make sure the mask is smooth

Day 5 - Complete the painting the mask by carefully and neatly adding details. Students also glued accessories like feathers, string and buttons down
