7th grade student gallery of @HansolHuh TypeDrawing contour sketches #mlearning #edapp #edtech #artsed

7th grade BWMS art students learned about the basics of line when it came to Contour drawing in class

Students learned the basics of Contour drawing and Blind Contour, to help them focus on the edges of their subject, to not pick up their pencil/marker and to increase their observation skills.

Students first did some basic contour sketches of their hand, and then they received their Ipod to use the free version of TypeDrawing

After receiving their Ipod, students were show the basics of the app, including typing in words to help describe their subject (whether a self-portrait or a neighbor), pick some colors and then be sure to export their image.

Some students even had time to download a picture of their favorite celebrity, and then import it as a background image. The students got a firmer grasp on contour drawing by tracing the edges of the celebrity, and then dropping the opacity of the image down to nothing so they could see just their sketch.

7th grade student gallery of @morriscooke Photo Puppet movies on European artists #artsed #mlearning #edtech #edapp

7th grade BWMS art stdents had to pick one  European artist from a selected list. They then had to type up a biography paragraph on Edmodo prior to receiving their IPod.

Afterwards, students had to log into their Edmodo site, where I posted a link of student photos. I took a photo of the students in front of green paper to simulate a green screen effect. Unfortunately, the Photo Puppet Go app doesn't have the "remove green" effect that my IPad app has.

Once students downloaded their picture from Edmodo, they then had to import it as a puppet in the Photo Puppet Go app

The next step, students had to download one piece of art from their artist and then upload it as a  background in the Photo Puppet app

Finally, students combined their puppet and the background into a scene. Within the scene, they would animate their puppet while recording their voice which demonstrated their research on the artist.

When the film was done, a student could Tweet about it, upload it ot their YouTube account or s
save it to the camera roll.

7th grade @Gimp collage of Perspective drawing student gallery #artsed #edtech #web2.0

7th graders at BWMS were introduced to the concepts of One Point Perspective and Surrealism. In the past, I normally allow the students to draw a room and then cut out images from magazines that would demonstrate the elements of Surrealism into their drawing.

This year, we scanned the original perspective drawings in, which you can FIND HERE by clicking the link to the students' original work.

7-1

Students would then watch the various GIMP tutorials that I made up so that they knew how to download images, cut them out and insert them into their drawings in the form of a digital collage. Like you may have read in my previous posts, GIMP is an excelent program to edit photos and it is a free alternative to Photoshop.

7-2

Unfortunately, it would seem that the students still had a difficult time watching the tutorials and then creating their collage as a .JPG and post it on Edmodo - but I was really pleased to see the work that they posted here for you to see.
