Final Greek Myth Animation Creator works by 6-1 Fall '12

Another year of using the awesome Animation Creator HD app with the students as they design Greek Myths into an animated form that tells a story about a current societal/environmental problem

This year is the first time the kids are using the iPads with the app, so they have a larger canvas and a bit more bells and whistles such as adding sound effects and narration.

Some people may think these cartoons, like Addy's are violent. I think they are PERFECT! Ancient Greece was a dark time and I think they used myths to entertain and frighten.

I got some great resources such as off of Discovery Education for their Greek Myth writing, and works of animation that are already based on Greek Myths

McCarthy's animation helps illustrate that Greek myths helped teach morals for every day life. If they didn't help out, they could be punished by the Gods. Like Medusa and Hurricane Sandy

Some of the students did an amazing job with the dedication to this project, as we must have spent about a total of over three weeks on it - from conception to completion.

Eli's has some pretty smooth animation with enjoyable sound fx. I like how he focuses on the problem of air pollution and how a hero has to clean it up

I had each one of them save their videos to the Camera Roll on the iPad and then simultaneously post it to their eportfolio on Kidblog, but also post it to Edmodo so that I could download it from there and blog it here - which would then autopost to YouTube so that I could make a playlist.

Student interview creating Greek Myth on Animation Creator w/ Lesson Plan

I interviewed one of my students that was using the Animation Creator app on the iPad to create a cartoon inspired a Greek myth. I found some great resources for the project that perhaps you can use Myth, Writing or Digital Storytelling in your class.

How to change your @edmodo avatar w/ @piterwilson Stop Motion Webcam #edtech #web20 #socialmedia #studentgallery

Students got to create animated "movies" of themselves utilizing the netbook's built in web cam and the great website Web Cam Stop Motion

I have used other Web cam sites in the past, such as GIFUP, ( you can CLICK HERE to check out a previous post that I made using GIFUP for the same purpose)

But what I like better about Web Cam stop motion is that you can take up to 20 photos, it keeps track of them using the "onion skin" mode and it works great with the built in web cam

I gave my students the option to change their Edmodo avatar or display it on the class wall for Edmodo. If you scroll down to the bottom of the post - you can see our student gallery

DIRECTIONS TO APPEAR ON EDMODO WALL:

Plan out a work of animation
If the site asks for access to the web cam / microphone ALLOW
Shoot 20 Photos of doing something in a progressive movement
Hit: "Sava and Publish Animation"
Then select "Watch this Animation" to save the actual image, you can also post it to Facebook or Twitter by selecting the other options
Your animation will appear on its own screen, then select "Download this animation"
Your image will now appear on its own web page. In case you get a red "X" on the screen, go back to the last step and right click on the "Download" link and select "Save Link As" or "Save Target As" instead
Once your image appears on its own web page (probably surrounded by just white) right click on the image and select "Save Image As / Same Picture As"
Make sure you know WHERE you are saving it, I'd recommend your "My Pictures" folder
NOW go onto Edmodo
Type something in the status update box, such as "here is my pic"
Click "file" to attach
Browse for the file you just downloaded and hit open or ok
In the send to box - send it to your class

DIRECTIONS FOR EDMODO AVATAR:

Follow the previous steps 1-10

11. In Edmodo, click on Account > Settings

12. Hit the "browse" box next "upload a photo"

(NOTE: YOUR IMAGE CAN NOT BE OVER 1 MB. YOU MAY HAVE TO LIMIT YOUR WEB CAM MOVIE TO ABOUT 10 IMAGES OR LESS, OR USE ANOTHER PROGRAM SUCH AS GIMP TO CHANGE THE SIZE)

13. Browse for your file and hit ok / open

14. Save your personal info

Student made Anime on @redsoftware Animation creator #edapp #mlearning #artsed #lessonplan

My 6th grade students studied a unit on Japan so I figured they could collaborate to create a piece of Japanese inspired animation (Anime) by using @redsoftware 's app: Animation Creator

In the past, I have done Manga work with my students, where they study the art of that time period while they learn about it in their sixth grade Social Studies class.

I wanted my students to utilize the Animation Creator app before they left me for the year, as I had some great examples in the past when my students made Greek Myth animations

You can also read about a recent Horry Independent article on my other students and how their use of IPods help them learn about their art content.

Overall though, I must say that I was a little disappointed with the school's IPods and the app itself. Not sure if it was a the school's wireless or the IPod's software, or a combination of both. SO I apologize to my 6th graders that not ALL of your animations made it into the film as I had a lot of issues of taking all thirty IPods home and uploaded them one at a time to YouTube .

8th graders student gallery of stop motion #animation with Filmstreet's Stop Frame Animator #artsed #edtech #web2.0

8th grade BWMS art students got to go to the great web 2.0 site, Filmstreet from the U.K.

which had a great tool called Stop Frame Animator

Students already had pre-existing knowledge about stop motion animation, since most of them were fans of the late night Adult Swim show: Robot Chicken

Students got to learn about the basics of stop animation by adding props, music, sound effects and motion to two mannequins. They also learned of the time consuming process of slightly moving their object, taking a picture and then moving it again.

The hard part was sharing their work and turnign the links into videos. SO check out some fo the works of quick simple animation by clicking on a link to their short video clip below

GIFUP Animated Gifs for Movement in art #edtech #artsed #elearning #web2.0

BWMS art students focused on the Principle of Design - "Movement" by using the web 2.0 tool, GIF UP, the free GIF animator.

By utilizing the built in web cam of the netbooks, students choreographed sequences where they could cycyle their 9 images. The site is free, simple to use and allows user to publish their animation into a variety of social networking sites and even edit the photos.
